Important Tips for English I:

  • Please remember to check your grades online on a weekly basis. This is your responsibility! HOME LOGIC
  • Check the handout files in class for any missing worksheets or papers.
  • Use the library Cyber Cafe if you need to complete homework and/or need a computer/printer- open Monday-Thursday until 6:30pm. Activity bus may be taken home- please check the times.
  • Don't forget that you may reserve a computer from the main office first thing in the morning to take home and use overnight or over the weekend. It is first come, first serve. Get in there early!!!
  • See me at any time to get a pass to the library. Remember, you may use the computers in the library during ACP on Days 1-4.
  • Accept personal responsibility. We all make mistakes, we all forget things. Take your time, ask questions, discuss feedback, participate, and be a scholar!

  • USE SSR TIME to visit the library and to obtain a library ACP pass.

Daily Classroom Agenda and Expectations:

  1. SSR (Sustained Silent Reading)- 20 minutes
  2. Reading Journal Entry
  3. Activities for Engagement: Reading, Writing, and/or Discussions
  4. Practice/Wrap-Up/Reflection

  • Each student must bring his/her SSR book, reading journal, and hardbound composition book each day.
  • There will be two rounds of Literature Circle sessions this semester. Books must remain in my classroom as they are shared among all classes. Students will have an opportunity to read Literature Circle books during SSR, class time, and ACP.
  • Students will practice process writing over several weeks- brainstorming, outlining, editing, revision, peer editing, conferencing, final draft
  • Students will conduct project-based learning from time to time- most materials will be supplied by the teacher
  • Students will participate in Pre and Post Assessments on units of study
  • Students will read multiple literary texts and will be responsible for notes on each text

Grading:

  • All work is due when the class period begins unless otherwise specified by the teacher
  • 1 day late work is graded at 1/2 credit
  • No make-up work allowed
  • CYHS does not provide Extra Credit
  • PRINTING PAPERS: all typed assignments will be given at least a week for completion. The high school provides multiple resources for computer usage, therefore, late assignments are not acceptable
